East Asia

East Asia usually includes mainland China, the Japanese archipelago, Taiwan Island, the Korean Peninsula, Hainan Island, the Ryukyu Islands, and the Mongolian Plateau, with an area of about 11.7 million square kilometers. 1.6 billion people live in East Asia, accounting for 22% of the world's population.

South Asia

South Asia is the term to replace the century-old time "Indian subcontinent," which was used to refer to the southern part of the Asian continent, mainly lying on the Indian plate and projecting southward into the Indian Ocean, which includes 8 Sovereign states: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan, Nepal, Afghanistan.

Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia, traditionally called Nanyang ("南洋") by the Chinese, is a region in Asia consisting of several countries and regions south of China, east of India, west of New Guinea, and north of Australia. Southeast Asia is divided into two regions. The land area is the Indochinese Peninsula, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, and West Malaysia.

Central Asia

Central Asia (Russian: Средняя Азия / Центральная Азия) geographically refers to a region that stretches from the Caspian Sea in the west, Xinjiang, China in the east, Afghanistan in the south, and Russia in the north. According to the official definition of the former Soviet Union, which occupied most of the territory for a long time, Central Asia only refers to its five republics: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

West Asia

West Asia is used pragmatically and has no "correct" or generally agreed-upon definition. The National Geographic Style Manual, as well as Maddison's The World Economy: Historical Statistics (2003) by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), only includes Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Palestine (called West Bank and Gaza in the latter), Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, UAE, and Yemen as West Asian countries.

Controversial Areas

Some East Asian countries have achieved significant economic success. Japan was the first to implement modernization and industrialization and achieve national growth, successfully becoming one of the world's richest and most developed countries. Although East Asia has much more political and economic influence, the existing Korean reunification, the Taiwan issue, the Diaoyu Islands dispute, and the Liancourt Rocks dispute are still hidden dangers that affect the region's future peaceful development.
